Hobby racecar drivers and aspiring Formula-One pilots can put their skills to the test on the slot-car track operated by Herbert Huber in Buchberg, battling it out against other racers to see who takes the chequered flag first!
The color of the starting light is about to change: Full of anticipation, four pairs of eyes are fixed on the white line, where four streamlined Porsche racecars stand side-by-side. Just a few more seconds and these “rockets” will break through the light sensor and shoot down the shiny black track, doing whatever it takes to steal victory from the competition. Breathless excitement can be felt along the edge of the track: gentle thumb pressure on the electrical hand controller speeds up or slows down the cars or allows them to drift through the bends with ease. Too much power and you risk sending your machine flying right off the edge. If that happens, your trackside support crew will have to leap into action immediately and set your car back in the slot so you don’t lose any more valuable time than necessary.
A genuine Grand Prix atmosphere can be felt amongst the spectators: Herbert Huber’s slot-car track is a mega attraction, not only for people who happen to be staying on Waginger See. Here in the idyllic hamlet of Buchberg, Herbert has made his dream come true, a dream that began back in 1995 when he started putting together his slot-car set: Investing hundreds of hours of work, here in this 150 m² barn which he has remodeled just for the purpose, he has installed a 4-slot, 60 m-long track filled with all kinds of challenges. Numerous details, such as grandstands, pit crews, grid girls, along with original tires as well as a cheering, life-size Mika Häkkinen made of cardboard all add to the authentic race feeling.

Up to four 4-man (or woman) teams can race head-to-head. Automatic timekeeping down to one thousandth of a second, lap times and monitor displays add to the breathtaking racing excitement for companies, groups of friends, Porsche clubs, model car lovers and makeshift teams. A separate lounge area, along with a real viewing stand above the racetrack, provides welcome relaxation as needed. Between starts, authentic racecar sounds do their part to heighten the excitement. An over 90-year-old senior citizen was once even gripped by race fever here.
