the world's longest castle
Have you ever visited the world’s longest castle? If not, you now have the opportunity to do so, since Burghausen is basically just around the corner from Waginger See.
The walls, battlements and towers of the world’s longest castle (1051m) seem to stretch out endlessly along the narrow mountain crest nestled between Wöhrsee and the River Salzach. At the foot of the castle lies the medieval town of Burghausen, whose unique architectural ensemble is also listed as a historic monument. The town square and the popular pedestrian zone are flanked by the homes of the once-prosperous merchant classes, colorful houses featuring a design that is very typical of the Inn-Salzach region, inviting visitors to enjoy extended strolls and shopping expeditions.
