Long-Distance Bike Paths

when cyclists become explorers

A long-distance bike ride is always something special. The impressions you collect during bike tours through Bavaria are guaranteed to leave you with lasting memories. Get to know the many faces of our region as you explore the nature of Chiemgau by bike. During one of these long bicycle tours, nary a secret will remain concealed from you. Regardless of whether you decide to set out on the trail of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the ancient Bajuwarii, Pope Benedict or the salt merchants.

Bajuwarii TOUR

The Bajuwarii Tour takes you on a 126 km ride through the countryside surrounding Waginger See as well as the Salzburg Lake District. This region dotted with lakes was actually settled by the ancient Bajuwarii some 1500 years ago. Evidence of this still remains to this day in the form of numerous archaeological sites along this route. In particular, the Bajuwarii Museum in Waging am See with the Bajuwarii House in the Kurpark as well as the Bajuwarii Farmstead in Mattsee give us a vivid picture of what life and farming must have been like back in those far-distant times. Of course, the Bajuwarii Tour is also a rewarding bike ride in its own right – as it leads you through the glorious lake country of the Alpine Foothills Region that stretches from Chiemgau to the Salzburg Lake District.

Further details about the Bajuwarii Tour.

Mozartradweg

Mozart Bike Tour

The Mozart Bike Tour (“Mozart Radweg”) leads you in the footsteps of musical genius W. A. Mozart, who actually left many traces in southeastern Upper Bavaria as well as Salzburger Land. Aside from his birthplace in the city of Salzburg, other landmarks in the life of this famous composer include Schloss Triebenbach near Laufen, the market town of Waging, Seeon Abbey as well as Wasserburg, a town on the River Inn. We invite you, too, to cycle along this long-distance bike tour through Bavaria on the trail of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Benedict Bike Path

Follow in the footsteps of the life of Pope Benedict XVI as you explore the beloved places where he grew up. In fact, this is one of the oldest cultural landscapes in Central Europe. There is so much here to discover, from proud sacred buildings to impressive border fortifications and breathtaking panoramic views, with one highlight coming hot on the heels of another. And there is no better way to discover all of this than by cycling along the roughly 248 km-long Benedict Bike Path (“Benediktradweg”). The start and finish for this tour is in Altötting, “the heart of Bavaria”, as Pope Benedict himself once formulated it. From there, you will set out on a ride through a countryside rich in variety, past countless abbeys, churches and chapels via Tittmoning, Waginger See, Traunstein, Chiemsee, Wasserburg and many more, before finally returning to Altötting.

Salzhandelsweg

Salzhandelsweg

The Salzhandelsweg leads along one of the routes historically used by the salt trade, running from Bad Reichenhall via Freilassing and Tittmoning to the River Inn. Following the River Salzach, this long-distance bike path will take you through the magical Alpine-foothills countryside of the Rupertiwinkel, with its charming villages as well as beautiful meadows and forests. Historic salt towns are also waiting to be explored. So, why not set out on a bike ride in search of the old salt traders who produced the wealth upon which this region’s prosperity was built.
