Angling in Waginger See
a paradise for anglers in Upper Bavaria

Rookie anglers and “serious” fishermen will find here non-predatory fish including roach, rudd, carp, tench, bream, bleak and chub, as well as predators such as pikeperch, eel, lake trout, pike and catfish. Well populated and with an average size of 86 cm, anglers are especially excited about the pike. Prime specimens can reach a length of as much as 1.3 m. And the catfish here are nothing to sneeze at either, some up to 2 m long. Skilled anglers are able to lure these giants from the depths by means of a technique known as “Wallerklopfen”, which involves hitting the surface of the water with a stick of wood.

If you wish to, you can join Sepp Kraller, head of the local fishery association, as he fetches in the vendace nets and shares extraordinary tales about fishing on Waginger See. Jürgen Schmid and his team are happy to take angling fans out on guided tours and show them the best fishing spots on the lake.

And what better conclusion to a marvelous day of fishing then gathering around a campfire at the campground, where you slowly grill your magnificent catch into a delicious delicacy.
